“Vodo Bilibili”(Bamboo Rafting)

Travel with us by truck further up to Naitauvoli Village for about 30minutes passing the famous magical Wailase River that has the power to untangle the tongues of children that has speaking disability and the stony mountain of Nacau where the original village site of Nadaravakawalu the powerful tribe of the people of Naivucini.

Your guide will present the I Sevusevu to the village representatives of Naitauvoli before they traditionally welcome you with a bowl of fresh cover and refreshments’.The village hosts will share some stories about their life up here in the highands before they  take you down to the bank of Waiqa river to show you the actual assembling and construction of Bamboo Rafts which was the only means of transporting their produce to the market or when visiting their relatives down river.They use products from the land include twine to lash the bamboos together and even a built in wooden seats for your comfort.  

Get on board your bamboo raft while your friendly hosts  sing Isa lei(farewell song) as you float down the Waiqa River with your Raft Captain.There will be photo stops to capture great and captivating sceneries along the Waiqa Gorge.

We will stop by the river mouth where Waiqa meets Wainimala River for lunch consisting of Meat BBQ and freshly caught river carps cooked over charcoal and wild vegetables and boiled or roasted root crops with fresh fruits and varieties of juice,water and beers.

Continue the Rafting after lunch to Gusui Doloiya where your hosts from Naivucini are waiting to escort you back to Naivucini Eco Retreat for a hot cup of tea or coffee.

09:00am-Truck departs Naivucini for Naitauvoli

09:30am-Arrives to Naitauvoli for Traditional Welcome Ceremony and orientation.

10:30am-Assemble at Waiqa River bank for Bambo Raft construction.

11:00am -Bamboo Rafts Depart Naitauvoli village

12:30am-Arrive at Waqa River mouth for lunch

13:15pm- Depart for Gusui Doloiya

14:00pm-Tour Ends

Nature Walk and Farm Tours

Your guide will give you a detailed briefing on this tour as  this is one of their main source of livelihood in the village.You will then join your guide with the gears you need for the walk and the farm crossing ankle to knee deep rivers and climbing some steed hills and thick forest.The guide will explain the many uses of plants for mediactions and treating wounds and skin disease along the way.

At the farm you will learn how to plant root crops like taro,cassava,yams and kava.These are their staple diet  and source of income that they take down and sell at Suva and Nausori market every week.

Collect some mature root crops from the farm with wild fruits and vegetables to cook  with freshly caught fish and prawns for lunch by the river.Lunch will be caught in young green bamboo over fire.

Enjoy lunch with varieties of chilled soft drinks,water and beers.

Transport will pick you up after lunch to bring you back to Naivucini Eco Retreat Base.

Village and School Visit

Visit this very special village of Naivucini and learn about its rich history and culture and tradition. Your guide will brief you at the base before the tour begins to ensure that everyone is aware of the protocols and dress codes in the village.

You are required to take a bunch of kava roots sold at the base for your sevusevu to the village.The kava roots are your passport to the village whereby your guide will present to ask for permission to be part of the village for the day.

A traditional welcome ceremony follows before they share their stories with you. After the welcome formalities you will then be taken by your host families to learn about their village way of living where they will show you how they live their lives in the village.

Ladies will teach you arts and crafts like mat weaving and men will show you how they plait walls of traditional houses out of bamboos.

The village school will be a highlight of the tour where you will be visiting and even share about your countries to the children. Gifts and donations to be given to the school office.

Return to the village hall where a village traditional feast awaits you followed by entertainment before returning to base. Soft drinks and water will be provided.

Fijian Cultural Experience and Entertainment

The tour begins in the late afternoon where your guide will take you to watch the boys play touch rugby or volleyball and you can even join in if you want.On the way you will see the final preparation of the “lovo”or the earth oven where your dinner will be cooked You will be escorted to the village hall enroute watch the unearthing of the lovo and take in the roasted  smell of leaves and food consisting of varities of meat,fish and vegetables with root crops which will be spread out on the dinner table later.

The evening formalities begin with the traditional protocols  followed by traditional entertainment or “meke”where the performers will dance to the rhythm of the vocalists  singing chants to the beat of  bamboos and wooden drums.The dances are not only for entertainment but are a way of relaying stories of past events passed on from one generation to another.You can join at the end with the dancers to try out some Fijian moves before enjoying the Fijian traditional feast prepared for you.

Wind up the evening by sharing traditional kava or soft drinks and water and sharing stories with your friendly hosts through to the late evening lights before you retire to bed.
